In Memory

Mike Dismukes

DISMUKES, Michael Glenn
Mike Dismukes, 62, passed away unexpectedly while hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado on September 19, 2015. He was born to Nellie F. and Glenn M. Dismukes on May 14, 1953. An Eagle Scout, Mike loved the outdoors and was an avid hiker, runner and cyclist. He was a kind, loving, generous, smart, talented, caring and joyful soul, full of life and laughter. We will miss him immensely.

Mike lived his entire life in Austin, graduating from McCallum High School (1971) and later from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA in History and Economics (1975) and a BS in Mechanical Engineering (1980). He started his engineering career with Aztec Industries and in 1982 joined what was then Tracor Aerospace (now BAE Systems). He continued with the company for over 33 years, moving from engineering into management. At the time of his death he was serving as the Austin Business Center Director. In addition to his long time business career, Mike owned and managed Peter Pan Mini Golf, a family owned business started by his uncle in 1948.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Katherine Malm; brother and sister in law, Edward and Debby Dismukes (Columbus, OH); sister and brother in law, Margaret and Julio Massad (Austin, TX); uncle, Fred Winkler (Austin, TX); aunt, Olga Metcalf (Houston, TX); and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

On Sunday, October 18th, accompanied by many long time friends, Katherine will hike his ashes into the Grand Canyon to his favorite spot above Phantom Ranch overlooking the Colorado River. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, October 31st, 3 to 5 pm, at the French Legation (802 San Marcos St., Austin, TX). We will also be honoring Mike's memory at Peter Pan Mini Golf on Saturday, October 31st. All children in costume will golf free and all proceeds from the day will be donated to The Sandbox Project (an after school program providing an opportunity for education, growth and fun for high potential children in Austin).

Donations honoring Mike's memory may be made to Texas Mamma Jamma at http://fundraisers.mammajammaride.org/mdismukes (an organization providing support for cancer patients in the Austin area).
