Kathy Badgett (Pochi)

Kathy Badgett Pochi Kathy Badgett Pochi, of Austin, Texas passed away at home on February 22, 2012. Kathy was born Sept. 25, 1952, in Austin, to Joe Badgett and Earline Jackson Badgett (both deceased). She received her B.A. in History from the University of Texas at Austin in 1975, and worked in the national advertising department of the Austin American-Statesman in the late 1970s. She also worked at The University of Texas at Austin, first as a secretary in the Department of Germanic Languages, where she met Alan Pochi, who was a graduate student in the department, and then as secretary/receptionist in the business office of the Humanities Research Center. Kathy and Alan were married on May 22, 1983, in St. Elias Orthodox Church in Austin, and that fall they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. Kathy and Alan also spent time in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Big Rapids, Michigan; San Antonio, Texas; and Boston, Massachusetts before returning to Austin in January 2006. Kathy had a life-long interest in art and music, making jewelry throughout her life, and playing cello in the Austin String Project, and French horn and cello in the band and orchestra at McCallum High School, from which she graduated in 1971. In addition to her husband, Kathy is survived by her sister Karol Ann Badgett, of Austin, her brother Scott Badgett and his wife Judy, of Round Rock, her nephew Ben Badgett, of Austin; her aunt Jerry Kemp, of Hendrix, OK, and cousins Kay Kemp Jackson, Sheri McCutchen Abel, J. W. McCutchen III, Jeanine Badgett Bishop, and Patti Badgett Farnsworth. Kathy will be remembered for her love and loyalty to her family and friends; and the wonderful creative imagination that touched so many in so many thoughtful ways. She was a kindred and gentle soul who was always there to offer others comfort and cheer with her thoughtful offerings and creative gifts which were always perfect for our many celebrations and sometimes somber occasions. Our wonderful memories of Kathy will forever remain with us, because life is just a state of mind. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Holy Protection Orthodox Church in Pflugerville, TX.
