The University of Texas System is saddened by the loss of Dr. Laura Brooks Flawn, a 1977 graduate of the UTHSC Medical School and daughter of former UT Austin President Peter T. Flawn. Dr. Flawn was born in Austin on March 12, 1953. She was killed on Oct. 20 in a head-on collision on U.S. 290 near Henly, Texas. Dr. Flawn is survived by her father, Peter T. Flawn; and mother, Priscilla Pond Flawn of Austin; sister, Tyrrell E. Flawn and her husband, Dr. John P. Howe III, of Washington, D.C.; daughter, Priscilla Amy Flawn-Chopp; and son, T. Thomas Flawn-Chopp, of Austin. Dr. Flawn graduated Magna Cum Laude from The University of Texas at Austin in 1974 and three years later earned her medical degree from the Health Science Center, where she was Phi Beta Kappa. Memorial contributions may be made in Dr. Flawn's name to The University of Texas Marine Science Institute, where she contributed to the support of students and to the library.
