My earliest memories of actually preparing for 'Sacre' was in form four. By then i had made one or two friends in Sacred Heart and could also participate in the gossip mill about Sacred Heart guys though for some reason or the other, they did not interest me so much then. I would say, i was still suffering from immaturity.

Hmm..i can't remember who it was that told us that glycerine and powder could help smoothen ur face if you slept with it for a week. Weke, suffer no be small oh lol. For a week, one would slip out unnoticed after lights out and apply the sticky glycerine and powder. Boy, i just can't imagine how it even felt then. We'll brush back our hairs and tie with scarfs and sleep at night after rubbing sportin waves so it would look almost curly and smooth.

It is important to note that the hated insects .."Kritchi" ( not sure about spelling) used to choose to attack about one week to a few days before Sacre. And they would always attack only your face or some other very exposed part. I remember that same year, i had to lend my glasses to my fellow Bernadette classmate since "Kritchi" peed all over her eyes.

 We polished the sobos sandals so hard one could see their faces in them. The skirt splits were sharp enough to cut. The excitement in the air could be felt by all and more so for those who had "guys". What i looked forward to most was standing by and observing the sacred heart boys as they "bounced" majestically towards the ladies they were interested in after mass. Oh boy, it seemed gravity worked more on some of those guys. LGKMD!!!!

Marj you guys did not do not do much to prep for Sacre.  When we were in form 1-3, we had to have an impromptu house meeting the night before.  The form five girls had to tell us how to eta, walk, talk, sit and dance while in Sacred Heart. We also had to put out our dresses for the "Bigs" to confirm they were "Sacre-approved".  My sister, Sacre be worry oh.  All man be di fear for "float".

Na so i see oh Sally. Man no dey know, sometime man for even carry if them be give we all these tips Ha ha ha. Some of we be just go dey look like correct JJC.

LOL Sally I remember those days especially the ceremony involved in assessing and approving the dresses. The form fives would also rotate among the other dormitories to do same. And the way girls used to practically sprint from the assembly ground that morning as if Sr would change her mind and ask us to stay on campus. Can't remember Branche doing this, but I remember Sr Nuella used to stand by and watch everyone and you were promptly sent back if your dress did not pass luster. I also thought it was rather intimidating how the guys would watch us walking up the little slope from the front of their chapel. As if the thought of being examined like fresh meat was not enough, you now had to watch your "demarche" infront of them....the good old days.

Woyen no talk like say da "demarche" no bear fruits? LOL!!!!!!

Some very lasting fruits Sally, i must say  Woyen be don see far sinceeeeee.

LOL! It definitely bore fruits oh!!

You know, we should really rally and ask the school authorities to reinstitute Sacre. The kids now are really missing out.
