KNOW THE PIONEER STUDENTS AND THEIR TEACHERS Posted Sunday, February 19, 2012 03:19 PM
WHO IS WHO AMONG THE GOLDEN GIRLS?
The first students set foot in Our Lady of Lourdes College in 1963, and there were only 35 of them. Possibly because Rev.Father Nabben did not have adequate room space for a complete intake of 50 plus girls; remember, there was only one structure with two classrooms. One can also speculate that there were not enough teachers, and besides it was a learning experience and they needed to start small and grow. By January of 1994, twenty two more girls were enrolled to make a total of 56 pioneers. As the years went by, some dropped out for various reasons, others moved to other schools and yet others repeated a class. But it is noteworthy that the girls enrolled in Lourdes College were representative of all the divisions of West Cameroon at the time – Wum,Bamenda, Nkambe, Mamfe, Kumba and Victoria. Whatever the case, only 29 students reached the finished line in 1968 with three additions from: Okoyong, Saker and a promotion from the 1965 batch, bringing the total to 32 graduates.
