Miriam Allen

Allen, Mariam E. age 84, a resident of Trinity Community of Beavercreek,
passed away Friday, March 13, 2009 at Miami Valley Hospital. She was preceded in
death by her parents, Paul M. and Myrtle (Griscel) Engle. She was a retired teacher,
author and tireless volunteer. Miriam graduated from Beavercreek High School in
1942 and Heidelberg College in 1946, working summers at NCR during WWII. She
taught for 7 years at West Chester HS in Union Township and 23 years at
Beavercreek HS. She was inducted into the Beavercreek High School Alumni Hall
of Fame. Miriam was a life member of the Greene Co. Retired Teachers Assoc. and
Ohio Retired Teachers Assoc. She was also a charter member of Alpha Psi Chapter
of Alpha Delta Kappa educators' Sorority. Miriam's greatest devotion was to her
family and her church, Hawker U.C.C. Like her parents and grandparents before her,
Miriam was a lifelong member of Hawker Church. She was choir member and
frequent soloist for over 60 years, played handbells and served as Church Historian.
She is the author of Faith of Our Fathers; The Story of Hawker Church and
coordinated the Hawker Church Sesquicentennial Celebration. Miriam was also a
member of the Beavercreek Historical Society and the Beavercreek Women's
League. Miriam is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gerald Allen; daughter Julie
and son-in-law Jim Douglas; beloved granddaughters Lorna and Audrey; brother
Paul Marvin Engle; sister, Dee Coffey and husband Irv; cherished nieces and
nephews and a host of friends and extended family. Visitation: Monday, March 16
from 5:30-8:00 p.m. at Tobias Funeral Home, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road,
Beavercreek. Funeral: Tuesday, March 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Hawker UCC Church,
1617 North Longview St., Beavercreek. Interment will be at Mt. Zion Park
Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hawker Church Memorial Fund.
