Samuel Hamilton

HAMILTON, Samuel Newton 95, also known as Sam, Jerry and Newt, died peacefully Friday, January 25, 2019. He leaves his wife Catherine; his daughter Julie and her husband Adam King, his daughter-in-law Nancy Hamilton, grandchildren Samantha and Alex Hamilton, Hamilton (Milt) and Lewis King. He was predeceased by his son Samuel. Born and raised in Harlan County, Kentucky, to James and Vira Hamilton, he graduated from Eastern Kentucky University. During WWII Sam joined the Army as a member of the infantry in the Pacific Theater. In 1960, he began teaching industrial arts at Beavercreek High School. For the next 25 years he taught countless classes, coached gymnastics and became the high school golf coach. Sam was a member of Knights of Pythias, Fraternal Order of Eagles, VFW, American Legion and Masons. He was a tireless volunteer, organizing golf tournaments for the Beavercreek library, building tables for cystic fibrous patients, and providing over 1000 hrs. of volunteer work for Miami Valley Hospital. Sam has requested that his body be donated to a medical school, a memorial service will be held in the spring.
