In Memory

Gary Knostman

Survived By: Wife Charlene, children Gary Thomas, Ryan and Jack, Megan, and Stephanie.

Gary had a remarkable career. I knew him professionally as one of the Ch. 13 Bankruptcy Trustees active in Houston, Corpus Christi and Brownsville. During the great rescission of 1980 he was put in charge of an oil and gas refiner in Corpus Christi as trustee, operating it through its recovery. Gary, with whom I was not acquainted at Bellaire High, was even more remarkable in his achievements because, unlike the other Bankruptcy Trustees then and now, he was neither a lawyer nor an accountant. He brought a keen intelligence to the job, however and he had a bit of flair about him. He flew his private airplane between cities that were within his region. That always impressed me. It is ironic that I never, until now, connected him with Bellaire High, Class of 61.

Gary was an extremely unusual bankruptcy trustee.  He had an early verson of the cell phone that must have weighed fifteen pounds and a black gentleman to carry it for him. He did a very good job on the deal we mutually worked on. Assuming an afterlife he is  probably still filing flight plans.
