In Memory

Roger Helm

Roger Helm

I find rest in God; only he gives me hope. — Psalm 62:5

Roger Mainer Helm, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away suddenly at his residence on July 11, 2011, from natural causes.

Born on December 5, 1951 in Houston, Texas, Roger received a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas and went on to study at both the University of Tennessee and East Tennessee State University.

He moved to Johnson City, Tennessee, in 1986, where he spent a career as an award winning technical writer for Siemens Industry, Inc. and found a church home as an active and beloved member of Watauga Avenue Presbyterian Church.

Roger will be remembered as a man who had a passion for music, drawing and baseball; but what he loved most of all was making people laugh and was always in search of a good joke.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roger Irvin Helm and Elsie Beth Mainer Helm.

Roger is survived by his wife of 36 years, Ginger Susan Helm; his son, First Lieutenant Marc Helm and wife, Michelle; his daughter, Annaleise Helm Jones and husband, Chad; his sister, Margaret Busch and husband, Randy; his brother, Daniel Helm; three grandchildren, Hazel Helm, Violet Helm and Henry Jones; two special nieces, Rachel Evans and Rebecca Dennison and husband, Trevor; one special great nephew, Charlie Dennison; and many others.

To know Roger was to be welcomed into his heart and his family and his absence leaves a great hole in the hearts of his loved ones.

Linda Gayle Martin remembers Roger Helm with love!  We met in German class at Bellaire.  Roger was a great friend and a brilliant artist.  I had the good fortune to visit his beautiful family in Tennessee.  They are all talented, kind and welcoming.  Roger came to NYC with our fellow classmate Ruth Teal Johnson to hear me play my solo piano debut at Alice Tully Hall, and slept in a lounge chair at my home in Connecticut. (We ran out of beds and he was a good sport).  Roger is greatly missed....
