Trisha Leonard (Smith)

Patricia Kay Smith (58) passed away peacefully in her home in Ferndale on August 28th, surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Born and raised in Bellingham, she was the late daughter of George and Joan Leonard. She leaves behind a large family legacy: devoted husband of 34 years Jim Smith, loving daughters Tanis Ortiz (husband Skye Ortiz) and Taryn Van Diest (husband Mac Van Diest), granddaughters Gracie Kay and Kayleigh Kay, grandson Tristan James, brother George Leonard Jr, extended family and close friends.

Tricia will forever be remembered for her strength, uplifting spirit and love and devotion to her family, friends and The Lord above. She adored her grandchildren and focused her seemingly boundless energy on helping her daughters to become nurturing mothers, loving wives, and faithful friends. She exuded an infectious positive energy, even in the face of life's biggest challenge. She had a special way of uplifting those around her and was given the nickname "Bubbles" at the local cancer center where she received her treatments and encouraged those around her. Tricia is surely looking down on her husband, family and friends saying, "Don't worry guys, I'll have this place in tip-top shape before you all arrive."

Her family shares a heartfelt "Thank you" for all those that shared their love and support during Tricia's journey.

Donations may be made in her memory to The Hospice Foundation at 2800 Douglas Avenue, Bellingham WA 98225. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on September 4th from 3-6pm at Fox Hall at 1661 W Bakerview Road, Bellingham.
