
Ian R. D. Beer, who was a kind, loving, talented and brilliant man, is now presumed dead after he and two other pilots disappeared in a plane over the Cook Inlet, Anchorage, Alaska, on July 28th, 2006. Ianwas a 1983 graduate of Bellingham High School and received his BSc. degree from the University of British Columbia in 1987. Ian served in the Canadian Air Force as a pilot from 1983 to 1995 and retired as a Captain, instructing students on the Tutor Jets. He flew fixed wing planes, single and twin engine, jets and helicopters and served on mountain rescue operations. Ian had a second career in IT and left that industry as a VP of Internet Security in 2002 to return to his flying career. He was also an entrepreneur and operated a successful home business, in addition to this regular career, for many years. Ian was a talented musician. He played the flute, the piano and recently became a DJ. Ian had many hobbies including remote control airplanes/helicopters, paragliding, and composing music. He is survived by his wife Tara, his parents Jane and Douglas of Bellingham, his brother Cliften, sister-in-law Sylvia and niece Summer in Seattle and Aunt Ann in England. A memorial service to celebrate Ian's life will be held on Saturday, September 30th at 3 pm at the Tacoma Narrows Airport in the Associated Aviation hangar, 1302 26th Ave. NW, Gig Harbor, WA 98335.
