LORENZEN, David "Dave" Bruce On the morning of January 7th, 2015, David passed away at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital after an almost two year battle with cancer. He was 69 years old. David was born on August 4th, 1945, in Oakland, CA, to Elizabeth Marie Watts and Helmuth Ratcliff Lorenzen. He graduated from Carlmont High School (1962) and received a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley (1967) before obtaining advanced degrees from USC (1970) and Stanford University (1972). He served in the United States Air Force (1967-1971) and was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain.

David married Judith Ann Smith on July 12th, 1967, in Monterey, CA. They lived in San Bernardino, Palo Alto, Roseville, Clovis, and San Jose before making a home in Sebastopol for 18 years. David worked for a variety of companies in the Bay Area as an Industrial Engineer and as an IT Manager. They moved to Oakmont in 2005. David spent much of his free time involved with his children's activities and after retiring from bookkeeping duties at the Salvation Army, continued on there as a volunteer. He was also a long-time member of Faith Lutheran Church where he served for years as "Treasurer Extraordinaire" of the church preschool.

Some of David's favorite hobbies included researching his family's history, reading, watching sports on TV, especially Cal's and Stanford's teams, family vacations to Hawaii, and his daughter's performances at 6th Street Playhouse. David will most be remembered for his generosity and his love of family. David was preceded in death by his wife and his parents. He is survived by brothers Thomas Lorenzen and Michael Lorenzen, sisters-in-law Teresa Lorenzen and Judy Lorenzen, son Jeffrey Lorenzen, daughters Jennifer Lorenzen and Julianne Bradbury, and son-in-law Mark Bradbury.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on January 17th at Faith Lutheran Church in Santa Rosa, followed by an informal potluck reception. Donations may be directed to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation at www.curemeso.org or by calling (877) 363-6376.

David and I re-connected at a Carlmont Mini-Reunion at Harry's several years ago.  As we talked, he recognized the licensing exam I was studying for because his wife had had that same license, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, and done that same studying.  He began giving me the professional mail that still came for her and encouraged me to attend the same meetings she had, because Mrs. Lorenzo had found them helpful.  I did that, and David always asked how I was doing.  He invited me to Santa Rosa to see a play in which his daughter starred, and I was fortunate enough to meet his 3 children and have dinner with the family.  His pride and pleasure in his 3 children was strong, and he was a happy man whose family meant a lot to him.  I was very late arriving at the 2012 Reunion, and David saved a place for me because he knew that would be the case.  He was a lovely, kind man who was actively considerate of other people, and he left us far too early.

I echo what Janie says about Dave Lorenzen. My mother and his mother were good friends and roommates in the 1940's, so I have known Dave most of my life. He was very a interesting and intelligent person but also a very caring individual and I always looked forward to seeing him at the reunions. He will be missed.
