Linda Ellis

LINDA DIANNE ELLIS

MAY 29, 1944 - MAY 26, 1969

Linda was only 24 when she passed. She was born in San Francisco and had resided with her parents on Bayview Avenue in Belmont for about 20 years.

She was survived by her parents, Guthrie and Frances, and one younger sister, Carolyn Ann Ellis,  then a student at San Jose State University (SJSU).

One news article stated she died after a brief illness, the other after after a long illness. She died at Moffett Hospital in San Francisco.

Linda taught language-arts at Burlingame Intermediate School for about two years.

She attended and graduated from SJSU in 1966. She had majored in social science. She also obtained her teaching credential at SJSU in 1967 and was a member of the California Teachers Association.

Her mother said "she enjoyed teaching and loved art."

Funeral services were held at the Carlmont Chapel in Belmont.  She was buried at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo.

I can't let this 50th reunion go by without remembering Linda Ellis out loud. Her picture and the notation “childhood disease” (????!!!!) is hardly enough. If I had died first, I would have wanted Linda to remember me to all of you. Linda was a radiant but down to earth being, who loved to laugh and sing raucously (with me, to Peter, Paul and Mary) and learn new things about this world and about herself. She really listened and sought to find the special light in others. She was loving and in the end, did not give all of her love wisely. I think she knew that, and gave it anyway. The one word I would pick to describe Linda is “joyful.”

Linda died a few days after her 25th birthday. I don't know where the “childhood disease” information came from and call it into question. The cause of her death was liver failure from some form of hepatitis with an acute onset. Nowadays, she could have had a liver transplant and would have benefited from drugs and treatments that did not exist in 1969. (A few days before she died, we marveled together that a man was going to walk on the moon.) We lost her many years too soon, and I have missed her all those years.

Thanks Fred for commenting on Linda.  You got me thinking about her.

Linda sat next to me in most every class due to alphabetical seating.  I was a lucky guy.  She was one of the most naturally beautiful girls I ever met.  Hair, voice, smile, incredible sweet personality. And very smart.   I got to know her as a classmate but was to timid to ask for a date. Also sat next to her at graduation. I was shocked when I heard about her passing years ago. God took her too soon.

You know,  thinking about her now... at my age of  73...I may still have a crush on her.

 Rest In Peace Linda.

Linda Ellis and I sat next to each other in US History in our Junior year.  We were in the last seat of

two adjoining rows.  I'd had little time with her until then because our classes and alphabet order just

did not come together.  However, in US history, we met.

She was genuinely sweet and very pretty, and her personality was outgoing with enough opinion to be

fun and entertaining.  I came to look forward to seeing her before class started and catching up on the

day's Carlmont chatter.  Unfortunately, after that class, I never shared class

time and space with her again.   A mistake was made in heaven when such a lovely person was taken at such a

young age.
