From the Bennington Banner January 19, 1977 George W. Hathaway Funeral services will be held Saturday for George William Hathaway, Jr. 19, who died early this morning in a fire at his 111 Dewey St. home. Mr. Hathaway was born April 4, 1957 in Bennington, the son of George W. and Gertrude Westfall Hathaway. He received his education in Bennington schools and had been working as a driver for Bette's Taxi since being honorably discharged from the Navy. His interests included citizens' band radio, cars and motorcycles. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bennington. Mr. Hathaway is survived by his parents; three sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Heggie of North Adams, Mass., Mrs. Dorothy LeBlanc and Mrs. Mary Kinney, both of Bennington; paternal grandmother Mrs. Ethel Hathaway of Bennington; five nieces; two nephews and many aunts and uncles. Services will be held this Saturday at 9:30 am at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Floyd T. LaBombard, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Interment will be at a later date. There will be no calling hours. The family prefers that contributions be made to the Bennington Rescue Squad through the funeral home.

I think George died in a fire in August or September 1975.
