William J. Merna, 41, of Bethlehem died Sunday, March 8, at home. He was the husband of Joanne (Stusnick) Merna. They would have been married nine years this month. Born in Philadelphia, he was a substance abuse counselor at Staten Island (N.Y.) University Hospital for the past year. He was also an ordained minister. A graduate of Lancaster Bible College, he received a master's degree from Philadelphia College of Bible last year. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Bethlehem, where he taught Sunday school and was a Christian counselor. He was a former intern at the Allentown Rescue Mission and a volunteer at Second Harvest Food Bank, Allentown. He was an Army veteran, serving in Germany. Survivors: Wife; sons, Michael L. Ulmer of Essington, Delaware County, and Johnny Merna, at home; daughters, Olivia C. and Margaret C., both at home; brothers, James of Bensalem, Bucks County, and Terry in Louisiana, and a grandson.
