In Memory

Eileen W. Graham (Moore) - Class Of 1951

Eileen W. Graham (Moore)

Eileen Winifred Moore, 84, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed into the arms of her Savior on February 3, 2019.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, Eileen was an artist who specialized in watercolor painting and ceramics. She was adept at flower arranging and made many superbly decorated cakes for relatives. She had been certified as a Gourmet Chef in France so many of her meals were legendary. Her sons-in-law and grandsons often fought over her lasagna and Christmas cookies. She had a dry Irish wit and was honest to a fault. Eileen raised butterflies from eggs and then released them in her backyard and rescued baby birds and cats. Following her Navy husband around the world, she adapted to her role as hostess in numerous cultural situations and learned to speak Spanish and French fluently.

Eileen was a founding member of Foundry United Methodist Church and a current member of Crossroads Community Church. She was also a commissioner of the Virginia Beach Clean Community Commission, former President and Treasurer of the King’s Grant Garden Club and Treasurer of Groveland Park Civic League.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and Joseph Graham; daughter, Susan Todd; and sister, Barbara Vansant. Left to cherish her memory: her husband of 67 years, CDR John Moore, USN (Ret.); daughter, Jeanne Scarper (Bill); son, John Moore, Jr.; grandchildren, William Scarper, III (Jennifer), Nicholas Scarper, Ryan Todd (Sarah), and Courtney Moore; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Madelyn Scarper; and Anna Scarper, Alex and Eddie Whiteside; and a son-in-law, Robert Todd.

The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel on Saturday, February 9, 2019, from 12 to 1 p.m. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com
