Mike and I were in Platoon #344, 3rd Battalion, Parris Island Marine Corps Recruit Depot.(End of May 1976 we formed)  We went through the heat of the South Carolina hot and humid summer. He was on the other side of the open squad bay. No air conditioning. Sitting on our foot lockers, shining boots, cleaning rifles, or writing letters home I would see Mike hard at work. He was squared away. Our gen wore sateens and broke starch. We had C-Rats during infantry training. M16A1s replaced the M14. We had the old ruck sacks, wore boot bands. Drill Instructors are forbidden to do today things they did then. We did have one suicide by rifle one night in a squad bay across from our building. Often thing that same incident was the one used in movie Full Metal Jacket. If you know you know. Mike breezed through recruit training as I did. We stayed under the radar of the drill instructors and often giggled at others being remedial corrected with calestetics for not getting with the program. I often thought how Bensalem High School produced some good Marines and Veterans. Sad to see his is not with us.

David Ball (1975), Ellen Parker (1975) also earned the title U.S. Marine. Both squared away Marines. Hope I did not miss any other Marines from Class of 1975. Ellen, Dave and I are doing good and chat it up on Facebook once in awhile. Dave visits my home in Winter Garden, Fl. Ellen might as well live here as she vacations from retirement often in Florida.
