Dale Phillips (Williams) (1968)

James Keith graduated from both pharmacy school and dental school at UNC-CH. After finishing dental school, he married Karen Locke from Chapel Hill. They settled in Greensboro where James Keith, known as Jim in his adult life, developed a thriving dental practice. Jim and Karen had two children. Unfortunately, Jim died November 23, 1994 from complications of a vascular disease which he had dealt with since he was 12 years old.

Their daughter Stephanie lives in Chicago and operates her own business catering parties and teaching culinary classes. Their son Bryan lives in Chapel Hill and is a pharmacist. Karen lives in Greensboro.

Despite battling illness in his high school years, Jim always faced life courageously and did not let his physical problems get him down. He battled back to become one of the top students in his class at Benson High. Because of health issues, he could not play sports, but he always stayed close to the Blue Phantoms as a Student Trainer or Scorekeeper.

He was a great big brother and always let his younger brother tag along on a Saturday night outing. He always set a good example throughout his life and gave of himself. One notable example was that earlier in 1994, he went on a mission trip to Bolivia where, in 5 days, he treated over 400 patients at a free dental clinic. Most of these people had never seen a dentist.

Jim was very active in his community and the Methodist Church in Greensboro. He became an avid golfer and consistently scored in the low 80's. His younger brother can't break 100. That is one more thing that maybe he could have taught me. I wish we had had the time.
