This has been an action-packed first year of retirement! After getting Mom settled in at The Willows - Assissted Living, I found I had 1 more house, 2 bank accounts, 2 IRAs, 1 Long Term Care policy, and her Soc. Sec. to deal with. Kind of like Monopoly with real money and stuff. In March, Samuel John Maffin came into this world 11 weeks early - all 2lbs. 4oz. of him. He is now 14lbs. and doing great. In April, Kathie's mom was in a terrible accident. The driver was killed instantly, mom survived and was out of rehab and back home by the end of June. On July 4 I decided to check myself in to the Cath-Lab at Lakeland and had 4 stents put in my chest (not really my decisiion) - in and out in 2 days. Aint modern medicine great?! At the end of July my daughter Libby and her 2 dogs were attacked by a pitbull. Everybody is OK except the pitbull. In Sept. Kathie and I were vacationing in Glen Arbor, Mi. when we saw the report on the incident at the Naval Yard - our son in law Dave works there. Dave made it out . . . his boss was not as lucky.

As I sit here in the middle of this Jan. blizzard safe and warm with my wife and 2 dogs; family alive and healthy, I am amazed at how good the Lord has been to me and mine.
