MICHAEL THOMAS JACOBS, age 60, of Canonsburg, PA, on Thursday, April 22, 2010. Michael, a beloved and respected football coach at California University of Pennsylvania passed away at UPMC Montifiore Hospital. Born in Berea, son of the late William L. and Mary (Studevant) Jacobs. Jacobs was a graduate of Wittenburg University and went on to receive his Masters at Bowling Green State University. Upon graduation Jacobs began his lifelong mission as a teacher and educator at Willard High School in Willard, OH. After brief stints at Ashland University and the University of Toledo, Jacobs was hired as part of Don Nehlen's staff at West Virginia University. During 14 seasons at WVU, Jacobs established himself as one of the premiere offensive line coaches in the country, developing multiple All-Conference and All-American players. In 1995, Jacobs was hired on John Cooper's staff at The Ohio State University. In 1997, Jacobs was at the helm of the Buckeye's offense as they scored a last-minute touchdown to secure a Rose Bowl Victory. Jacobs went on to coach at Oklahoma State University and Mesa Community College before spending his final season as the offensive coordinator at California University of Pennsylvania. Jacobs leaves behind his sons Michael R. and Cody H. Jacobs, his siblings William Jacobs and Patricia Jacobs, and nephew William "Jake" Jacobs and niece Julie Jacobs. He was preceded in death by his parents and niece, Molly Jacobs. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 2 p.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 276 E. Bagley Rd., Berea, 44017 with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Liver Foundation

Former West Virginia University assistant football coach Mike Jacobs has died. 

Coach Mike Jacobs passed away Friday in a Pittsburgh-area hospital after battling health issues with his kidneys.

Jacobs spent 15 seasons on the WVU staff under Hall of Fame coach Don Nehlen.   Jacobs served as offensive line coach with the Mountaineers for six seasons prior to serving as offensive coordinator from 1986-94. 

Jacobs left WVU in 1995 for Ohio State.   While with the Buckeyes, Jacobs served as the offensive line coach and offensive coordinator on two Big Ten Champion teams (1996, 1998).

Jacobs had battled health issues for the last several years relating to a kidney condition.   He had to leave his last job as offensive coordinator at California (Pa.) due to the health issues. 

Jacobs spent the 2000 season as offensive line coach at Oklahoma State prior to taking several years off from coaching because of his health. 

He returned to coaching in 2007 as offensive coordinator at Mesa Community College.

I am so sad to hear the news about Mike. He was such a wonderful guy with the best smile. Sending heart felt sympathy to his family and friends who have lost him.
