Jeepers! I am getting worse and worse about knowing how to use stuff on the dang innerknot. I want to thank Jen Runyon and Sue Long for the birthday greetings that were placed on the A Rohlik page of the website. Either I screwed up the reply thingy, or maybe my thank yous went where I hoped to send them and then I could not subsequently figure out to view them...

Perhaps all of these journeys around the sun are making me dizzy. But it was a lovely birthday. I played a two hour solo date at a Golf Course Clubhouse in an adult community called Alderbrook. It went very well and I really will enjoy returning in a month or two. Two hours from 6p to 8p is THE ULTIMATE "Geezer Gig". I was able to pack up and be home before sunset. Because Marcia and I are, shall we say of a certain age I do not seek tips or even put out a tip jar. But tips were thrust into my hands or left anonymously on the stage and one couple gave Marcia and I tickets to see THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS at the Harlequin Theatre in Olympia. Nice gift, dare I say! The benefactor is the owner of a law firm, so we were seated in a block of attorneys. They were not at all unpleasant. Perhaps being out of their natural environment kept the fangs out of sight. Anyway, a nice birthday weekend was enjoyed by me and Marcia, who made it to sixty-three SEVEN WHOLE DAYS before me. She says that it is a l o o o n g seven days.

So Steve VW, you asked to see my art. This vase is currently on display in a juried exhibition here in Hawaii. Back at Berea, I had Wilhelm, who would send me to the office for wearing jeans. I did not care for his art class, however, I did enjoy Mr. Trusso back in the 9th grade. In hindsight, it was evident that he was  a very patient teacher. The dynamics in that class was quite challenging with the likes of Chuck Rich, myself, and the McCarthy brothers, and I forget who else (Doug Price?) but we were not the most well behaved students.  Anyway, would like to see more sharing here on the message forum to see what everyone is up to. Waiting for the OSU game against Oklahoma. Go Bucks!!

Steve, when you mentioned the Browns it made me flash back to my first NFL game, compliments of your father. Browns 27, Eagles 17, as I recall. And very cold with one guy yelling, "Give that ball to Leroy" for the whole game. Good memory?

Hey everyone!  It's time for me to chime in again.  John, I was at most of those long ago Browns games, because my dad was the News/Sports Director at WERE then.  Leroy I do remember!  Leroy Kelly - one of the best players they had in those days.  Yes they need to give that ball to Leroy RIGHT NOW!   And Nobu, that piece you created is absolutely gorgeous!  I love reading what you all are doing.  I am working completely from home now, recruiting for TNG in TX, MS and AL.  I hire those nice people you see in the grocery (and other) stores putting out the new books and magazines.  That is a part time job, and the rest of the time I operate 3 little businesses from home.  One involves me buying old broken useless jewelry and making it into modern looking afforable jewelry; I also do dog sitting/walking from my home; and I flip items I purchase at flea markets, yard sales, or find in people's trash.  I've done a couple of very profitable clean-ups when people have moved away (or worse), and last year I purchsed my first storage auction.  On that, let's just say I didn't LOSE anything on the storage auction. It was fun though, so that was worth it I suppose.  Plus now I have spare time again, that elusive thing that ceased to exist when I entered Corporate America.  I gave all that up completely in 2012, and I have never looked back!  Hope to read more posts from everyone soon!  GO BROWNS BEAT DOLPHINS!  And GO TRIBE BEAT EVERYONE!!!

Is everyone on the eastern seaboard okay? Marcia and I were attending her family's reunion on Roanoke Island NC. It was spared the brunt of hurricane Matthew, but we were encouraged to head west and not think that even a "near-miss" hurricane is an adventure for one's bucket list.

ps: is everyone hearing the expression "bucket list" more and more often, or using it?

Thanks for thinking of us, Doc.  It was pretty scary in Palm Bay, FL on Thursday night.  We have been here for ten years and this was our first hurricane.  The wind was howling and things were hitting the house.  We had our shutters up so we couldn't see what was going on outside.  We never lost power so we saw the whole Tribe game!  We were pleasantly surprised on Friday morning to see we had no damage, just some debris to clean up.  Even though we got two days off, it is not something I want to go through again.  Bring on the Jays!

Things weren't too bad in Orlando either!  Mostly debris to clean up and I had to reattach part of my fence.  Nothing like 2004 when the 4 hurricanes came all the way across the state and back to back and brought along a tornado!  Last week I was in Atlanta, and my flight home was Wednesday night.  Fortunately it was a very slow moving hurricane and the flight was wonderful!  And Doc, as for the bucket list, yes everyone seems to have one these days!  A British friend of mine informed me years ago that the term "Bucket List" actually originates from the old English expression "Kick the bucket" which is centuries old.  Obviously the list being the things you want to do before that moment.  He told me you know you're old when you start crossing things off the list!

Happy birthday to all October folks.  I pray you have/had a wonderful birthday surrounded with family and friends with lots of laughs and fond memories.  A special shout out to Kathy Paukert -- love and prayers as you move through life and  fond memories of our school days together.  God Bless you and everyone born in October.

Delores Brown (Gardner )

I only get to check these messages periodically and it's fun to catch up with you all.  as for the storm, thank GOD that it took that little eastward jog, because it would have devastated Ft. Pierce, FL.  We were ready, but a CAT 4 is nothing to take lightly.  The two Cat. 3's in 04 were scary enough.  We just had a lot (and I mean a LOT) of tree branches and leaves and debris around this time.  Two days of raking took care of it all.  Today it's 86 degrees, but we are thankfully supposed to get some cooling down finally this next week.  It's been a long hot summer (since March)..

AMAZING about our Tribe!!!!  A long time coming..  Now, what is going on with those Browns?????

Have a great weekend everyone!  I get to babysit my grandson, so life will be good :-)

It has been awhile since I posted. What's shakin' out there? I have gigged twice, same place, the golf course clubhouse in nearby Union, WA. Best gig ever. A very nice room, the kitchen and bar are well run, the usual audience is "appropriate". That is to say, my age. We share cultural history including global events and popular music and political everythings. The job is brief and early 6pm - 8pm. The pay is fair and I do not have to haul big stuff to amp up. In fact, the first two times I played there, meals were being eaten and I played out in front of the stage, no mics at all for the first few songs.

Thanksgiving was quiet and just as we had planned. No dinner guests, just a fireplace, a peaceful cat and Marcia and I for a grateful meal. Selfishly, all of the leftovers stayed home and we have enjoyed the autumnal bounty since.

The Pacific NW has been enjoying a typical autumn, grey, rainy days interspersed with grey, rainy nights. I knew that when I moved here. It is what it is and Washington is nicknamed The Evergreen State. That description applies mostly to the Puget Sound and Olympic Penninsula geography. East of the Cascade Range, it can be hot and dry and brown and might enjoy blizzard-like conditions in the winter months. Pretty good wine grapes are grown there, and hops and peppers and the best local sweet corn in these parts. What's not to like? The ocean, the mountains, the inland waters, the plains...   What was that pop song "The bluest skies you ever see are in Seattle" I ought to know, but I do not. I'll find out soon I suppose. The innerknot often reveals what I seek. Best, y'all. Doc

ps. there it is: theme music for a television program HERE COME THE BRIDES.

Hi Art.  You make Washington sound so beautiful.  I've been to many of our beautiful states, but I must admit, I've never been there.  Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving and that you are plugging along.  Cleveland's new public square is decorated and beautiful.  The new ice skating rink is always filled with skaters during the evening hours.  Lots of people live downtown now.  Who knew???  Downtown Berea is beautiful also.  There's a big tree on the triangle and they are always having various activities for the Bereans.  They decorated the quarry also.  It's so beautiful there now.  Again, who knew????  Cleveland still seems to have the best weather throughout all of the seasons -- not too hot in summer, mild and colorful fall, mild winter and lovely spring.  Not like it used to be. Must be global warming.  Lake Erie is cleaner than I've ever seen it and there's so much reconstruction and beautifying going on throughout the city.  It's truly remarkable.  Still, it's nice to get away on vacation and visit other places.  I think of you every time I see Frasier on TV -- Seattle and all.  We spent Thanksgiving with my mom in Berea.  It was very pleasant and I always enjoy seeing her.  She is 82 now, so I spend as much time with her as possible, which takes me to Berea every weekend.  It's still like home to me -- probably always will be.  It was good to see your post.  Have a great Christmas Holiday and blessed New Year.  Jen

To all Berea alumni who had birthdays in November -- happy belated birthday!  To all of you with December birthdays -- happy birthday!  Like the soap opera says -- like sand through an hour glass, so are the days of our lives.  I think of you all often.  God bless and keep you.

Jen
