In Memory

Carol Irwin (Elfring)

Carol Irwin Elfring, age 69, went home to be with the Lord on November 13, 2022.
Carol is survived by her husband of 47 years, Hub; children Sara (John) and Kiley (O’Neil); grandchildren Josh, Zach, Luke, and Chiara; and sister Marty. She is predeceased by her parents, Richard and Louise.
Carol was born in Terre Haute, IN on July 26, 1953, with most of her childhood spent in Berea, OH. She and Hub met as students at Michigan State University, married in 1975, and raised their family in Novi, MI.
Prior to starting a family, Carol was an Assistant Branch Manager for Detroit Bank & Trust (now known as Comerica Bank). After starting a family, she shifted to her self-proclaimed title of “professional volunteer.” Carol’s passion for the community led to her involvement in numerous activities while raising her children, supporting her husband, and handling whatever else came her way. As the saying goes, “If you want something done, ask a busy person.” Carol positively impacted any organization she served. Some notable roles that she held in the community were School Board President, Girl Scout Troop Leader, Bible Study Fellowship Leader, and Young Life Committee member.

Carol also had a passion for remembering special dates in the lives of her family and friends. She never missed sending a card and would spend significant time at Hallmark picking out the perfect one. Hub was still sending these cards on her behalf in the final weeks of her life, thanks to her organized calendar of birthdays and anniversaries.

However, Carol’s ultimate passion was for her Michigan State Spartans. Carol and Hub missed only a handful of football games in their 40 plus years as season ticket holders! Family vacations followed the Spartans to their bowl game location each year, her daughters had the fight song and dance routines memorized from a very young age, and Hub and Carol have lifelong friends from their days as students. Go Green!

We are grateful for Carol’s legacy in this life and have joy that she is now walking again with the Lord - For to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord! (2 Corinthians 5:8)
