Leslie passed away on January 1, 2023. She was a good friend and classmate at St. Leonard school, Morton West, and University of Illinois.  She was an enthusiastic lifelong supporter of theater.  I'll miss her.

So sorry to hear about Leslie passing. I had been worried about her the past year, as she was a regular poster on FB, and the past year and a half she had grown silent. We were good friends at Morton, lost touch over the years, and then connected through FB a few years ago. I have fond menories of her. She was the first one to introduce ne to skiing and dragged me to ski club. I'll always be grateful for that. Miss you Wachel!

So sorry to hear of the passing of Leslie. I have many warm memories of our shared experiences at Morton West, our double dates for homecomings and proms and our shared adventures as roommates during our first semester at University of Illinois - Champaign.

Obituary

Leslie Maria Wachel Kofron, 69, passed away on January 1, 2023, with her daughter, Erin, by her side.

Leslie was born August 4, 1953, in Chicago, IL. She attended St. Leonard Catholic School in Berwyn, and later Morton West High School in Berwyn (class of 1971). From there she went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (class of 1975). She met her former husband, Joel Kofron, in high school. They stayed in touch during college and married November 6th, 1976. Because Joel enlisted in the US Navy, Leslie lived throughout the United States and traveled in Europe. She worked as a graphic artist, creating logos and print for various companies such as Discwasher, Bitton Advertising, BJL Advertising, Quality Printing, and Morton College.

In July of 1988, Leslie became a mother, and again in 1992 and 1994. She and Joel raised their children in Batavia, IL. She became very active in her children’s extracurricular activities; most notably, she often took up the role of costume coordinator & designer for theatrical productions with Center Stage Kids Company, Children’s Theater of Elgin, Rosary High School, and Marmion Academy. Her love of the arts carried on through her children, and she made sure to support all their artistic endeavors. Other favorite pastimes included attending her friend Diane’s seasonal tea parties, traveling with family, and involvement in her local mothers prayer groups. In 2017 she became a grandmother for the first time and cherished every visit and story-time.

She is survived by her children, Taylor (Kofron) Meszaros & her husband Kevin, Erin (Kofron) Hoss & her husband Brian, and Stuart Kofron & partner Kumar Singh; grandchildren Hugo & Theodore Hoss; and many beloved cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Wachel & Isabell (Zuliani) Wachel.

A wake will be held on Friday, January 6th from 3:00pm-8:00pm at Johnson-Nosek Funeral Home, 3847 Prairie Ave. in Brookfield, IL. The funeral will start at Johnson-Nosek Funeral Home with prayers at 9:00am on Saturday, January 7th, with a funeral mass following at 10:00am at St. Leonard Catholic Church, 3318 Clarence Ave. in Berwyn, IL. Subsequently, a procession to Resurrection Cemetery will take place, followed by a memorial luncheon at European Chalet, near the cemetery.
