In Memory

Susan Gillis

Susan Morris (nee Susan Randle Gillis), a resident of Louisa, passed away early on Monday, January 3, 2011, at the age of 55, after a lengthy battle with lung cancer.

She will be much missed by her two sons, Charles Wesley Morris "Wes" and John Tyler Gay "Tyler"; her devoted friend, James Campbell; Tyler's father, John Russell Gay; her parents, Ellen Gillis and John Gillis; her brother, Bruce Gillis; her nieces, Claire and Katie Gillis; and many good friends who loved and comforted her in her life and throughout her illness.
Born in Champaign, Illinois, Sue grew up in Normal, Illinois, and Bethesda, Maryland, before settling 30 years ago in Virginia, first in Geer and Stanardsville, then in Louisa. Drawn to the lush rolling hills, friendly people and quiet country life of the Piedmont, she found her comfortable place here and never left. She loved riding her horses in this beautiful country and augmenting the beauty around her through gardening and landscaping. Sue had a caring and nurturing soul and worked hard to provide a home for her sons. Her baking talent was very much appreciated by family and friends throughout her life and became more widely known late in life when she began selling her delicious products at local farmers' markets.
