Obituary

Christine Margaret DiBiasio McLaughlin passed peacefully into the loving hands of Our Lord on October 27 at her home in Matthews, NC, after a valiant battle against cancer.

Christine entered this life on May 30, 1955, in Bologna, Italy, where her parents Armando and Evelyn were living at the time, while Armando studied medicine at the University of Bologna.

Upon her parents’ return to the United States, she was reared for a time in the Boston, MA, area, where her father completed his internship. He and the family relocated to the Washington, DC, area where he became a renowned surgeon. She was an integral part of a strong Italian-American family, acting as an “Assistant Mom” to her five male siblings, with whom she shared strong bonds of unconditional love and a deep appreciation of all things Italian – food, art, culture, and sport.

She grew up in Bethesda, MD, among many dear friends, none dearer than JoAnn Townsend Vilhauer.

Christine attended the University of South Carolina, where she met her other dear friend, Stacey Lindsay, and was graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and quickly put it to use upon returning to the DC area and entering retail management for Garfinckels, a well-known, high-end, local retailer and eventually as a Manager for Lord & Taylor.

In 1983, she married the love of her life (as she is for him), Joe. They lived in the Virginia suburbs for another 12 years and then chose to open their own business, moving to Greenville, SC, to do so. After building their business, they sold it and switched gears once more, and moved to Charlotte, NC, where Christine worked for Bank of America, ascending to the position of Vice President in the Marketing Department. Christine retired from the Bank in January 2020, leaving the many good friends she had come to know over her years there. She looked forward to spending her newly-found free time travelling and visiting the world’s many fine food and historic venues, especially those in her dear Italy.

She made more friends over the course of her life and volunteered for many local charities in the Charlotte area. She was a generous donor to these and other charities, both local and national.
