From his wiki page:  "Scheib went hiking in Taos, New Mexico, and went missing on June 13, 2015.[18] He was found dead on June 21, 2015.[19]

An autopsy revealed that Scheib died from drowning on or about June 13.[20] However, due to the cold water temperature of the ravine he was found in, his body was preserved in a manner that made it impossible to determine how long his body had been there. The area where he was hiking is prone to flash floods, and thunderstorms had struck the area the day he went missing.[20][21][a]"

When someone tells you, "take a hike", don't listen to them!  Or bring a buddy..........

I remember Walter from my Gourmet Foods class senior year.  There were only two guys in the class.

I remember Walter from summers in the swim club at the Wildwood Pool (Go Wombats!).  And then we briefly crossed paths much later as parents of boys playing ice hockey at the Ashburn and Reston rinks.  I think he had two sons.  So very sad about his death.

My parents and Walter's parents were close friends. My siblings and I hung out with Walter and his brother Karl when we all went to the beach together. I remember his career at various places (I recall a chef stint in Boca Raton) and later in the White House. It was so shocking when he died. Fond memories of Ocean City when we were kids.
