Shannon L. Hessong, 48, of Blue Grass, died Monday, July 9, 2012 at his home.

            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday.  Casual dress in honor of Shannon is requested. Memorials may be directed to the family.

            Shannon was born on March 15, 1964 in Rock Island, the son of Dale Owen and Justine “Tina” (Vogt) Hessong.  On July 9, 1988 at VandeVeer Park in Davenport, he married Sue Snyder.

            Shannon graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1982.  Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country from 1982-1987. Shannon worked at Ryerson in Eldridge.  He enjoyed motorcycles, fishing, tattoos, playing horseshoes, and pool.  Shannon loved spending time with his grandchildren.

            Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Sue; one son, Ricky Scheper of Davenport; one daughter, Crystal Scheper of Bettendorf; seven grandchildren; four brothers, Ron (Debbie) Boling of Jacksonville, FL, Jeff (Beja) Marshall of Davenport, Mike (Lisa) Huff of Davenport and Steve (Gracie) Hessong of Maquoketa; many nieces and nephews.

            Shannon was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Paul; brother, Bill Boling; and nephew, Thomas.
