In Memory

Jack McKee

Jack McKee

many thanks to Larry Adams for sending Jack's obituary;

Jack William McKee, Jr.

Jack William McKee, Jr.

Jack William McKee, Jr. passed away at home on November 3, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer. Friends and family will remember Jack for his quick laugh, his generous spirit, and his kindness toward those he loved.

Born in 1946 to Jack and Margaret McKee, Jack spent most of his life in Billings. He attended Broadwater Elementary school, Billings Senior High School and the University of Montana, where he graduated with a master’s degree in history. Jack was a natural entrepreneur from a young age, and owned several small businesses in Billings, and throughout Montana, over the course of his career.

Jack knew how to enjoy life, and was an avid traveler, reader, and cook. He loved being outdoors and the backpack trips he used to take with the Everson’s.  Some of his fondest memories were taking Mark and Brett camping and fishing in Colorado, and weekend trips to Silvergate and Cooke City with Jessica. Until the end of his life, Jack took pains to care for the people who loved him. He was a loyal husband and a devoted son, father, brother, and friend to the people he loved.

Jack is survived by his wife, Sheryl McKee, his mother, Margaret McKee, sisters Kathy Rotert (Larry) and Sheila Lillis (Don), his three children, Mark McKee (Darcy), Brett McKee (Staci), and Jessica McKee (David), his seven grandchildren, Amanda, Reese, Katelyn, Amira, Clara, Mickey, and Mack, and his beloved dog, Scoobey.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2019, at 10:30am at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Billings.

Memorials may be shared with BARK Animal Shelter.

How well I remember junior high school years when Vicki Price and I along with Jack and Dennis West would 'hang out' at the YMCA dances or school activities. He was always fun to be with and as I read the obituary and reflect on the last reunion, I am reminded of what a kind and generous person he was in our teenage years and as an adult.

I think Jack liked to walk the halls of BSH with me from time to time because he felt tall around me!  He was always kind and very funny.  Hard to explain but I feel "the lack" of Jack in our present world

This morning I was scrolling through the “What’s New” page and saw “Jack McKee has been added to ‘In Memory’.”
Oh no . . .
Jack and I had a unique bond, not only because we went to school together from the first grade on, but also because we shared the exact same birthday. It was always good to see him . . .  sort of like running into a twin whom I had not seen for several years.

Rest in peace, Jack. I will continue to think of you every December 29.

This may sound just a little weird, and I hope no one’s offended. But Jack was my first ‘crush’ when we were at Broadwater.  I was much too young then, of course, to understand why I might have found Jack so pleasant to be around, or what the whole thing with a ‘crush’ might actually mean (Heck, I was almost 30 years old before the whole picture eventually became clear to me.) I am so very pleased to know that he had a life  full of work he enjoyed, and a family he could be proud of, and who loved him deeply in turn.  The world is poorer when good people like Jack are no longer with us.

When I  was pondering whether or not to attend a BHS reunion because I had moved after Lincoln 9th grade, Jack encouraged me to attend.  He made me feel that a Billings home grown is always welcome to return.

To me Jack was one of the building blocks of our class. He is an example of the outstanding people I rave about. Some of us have known him for 60 years, others even longer. He never changed. Xxoo

Just now found out that Jack had passed away.  Kind of a shock, I guess. He was one of my first crushes.
