Jay Johansen

Jay J. Johansen passed away in Billings, MT on March 15, 2018. Jay was born September 19, 1968 in Miles City, Montana to David and Roberta Johansen. He graduated from Billings West High school in 1987; while attending school Jay was an active member of the varsity football team. Upon graduation, he attended Arizona State University, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Si fraternity. In 1989 Jay moved back to Billings to pursue his dream of becoming an entrepreneur and successfully started his first business Tansations. Jay was married to Lynell Dunn in 1993 and moved to Greely, CO where they lived until 1997. In 1997 his son Klae was born. In the same year, Jay started his second company, Retriever Bank Card. It was shortly after this that his new business ventures lead him to meet his current wife Jennifer Murray Johansen in 1998. They married on November 4, 2000.
When not actively pursuing the American Dream, Jay held a few hobbies dear. Starting with his 1981 Camaro, and with many cars that followed, you could often count on him being in his garage, polishing and tuning his beloved cars late into the night. Jay was also an avid fly fishing enthusiast, a passion he passed on to his son Klae, instilled the summer they spent fishing on the Bighorn River. Jay was also a compassionate man, and best displayed his love for helping others on the football field where he was the head coach of the Billings Senior High Freshman team for the 2006-2008 seasons. During this period, Jay and Jennifer were inspired to open the Athlete’s Foot on the west side of Billings in 2008.
Jay is survived by his wife Jennifer Murray Johansen, son Klae Johansen, mother Roberta Johansen, brothers David, Ken & Kyle Johansen, and his sister Terry Candelaria, Aunt Dortothy Halcro and many cousins, nieces and nephews. His father David, his grandparents Jess & Louise Diaz and Orris & Marie Johansen, and his in-laws Tom and Lillian Murray, preceded Jay in death. Jay will live on in our heart forever.
