Being an only child until I was 14 years old, Isa, Sr. (Brother) was like my brother, instead of an Uncle. There were only 10 months difference in our ages. After Grandaddy Martin died, the younger children were "adopted" by the married siblings, so Isa was "adopted" by my mother Katie (Tee) and would spend the weekends with us. He would bribe me when he wanted something I had , by threating to go home. I would beg him to stay and let him have whatever he wanted.
We went to the movie for Cowboy Westerns on Saturdays (yes, we walked 3 miles to the movie to save the streetcar fare for drinks and popcorn), and he would get so involved in the action that he would be shadow punching along with the cowboys.
It was very sad when we got to be adults and went our separate ways to raise our families and pursue our chosen careers. We went to the army after high school, (I volunteered and he was drafted). He went to Alaska and I went to Korea. We were together when his new '56 Chevrolet was totaled during the Christmas Holidays in 1956.
He was truly one of the most generous, kind and toughtful persons I have ever known.

Today is January 23, 2012. My beloved passed away on this date in 2001. He is truly,
truly missed. I think of him so often still and it's as if he passed away only a few months ago.
My eyes are filled with tears when I think about some instances that happened a few
years ago. I find myself talking to him and I would say "give me some sign to let me know
that you are around me". One Wednesday night I went to Bible Class. When I got home
I could not get in the back door because the dead bolt was on. Of course I didn't leave
it on because I knew I would be coming in the back door. At that time my son, Michael
was staying with me and he let me in. He said it's a good thing he was here or I would
not have been able to get in. Exactly three weeks later I went to Bible Class again on a
Wednesday night. I parked my car out front and came in thru the front door. I walked
straight thru the house to the kitchen. I didn't notice it at first but when I did, the dead bolt
was on the door again. I asked Michael about it and he said he didn't know how it got on.
The first time it happened the date was January 23rd, the date Isa passed, the second
time it happed was February 13th, the day we were married. After those two incidents,
I believe that was his way of letting me know he is around.
