Obituary

Published in the Birmingham News from Feb. 26 to Feb. 28, 2014

Sister Christine Maddox Solomon was born January 28, 1933 in Jefferson County to the late John T. and Ola Mae Maddox. She confessed Christ at an early age at Bethel A.M.E. Zion under the pastorate of Reverend Lanier, where she remained until her health failed. The love for her Church inspired her to become an active and dedicated worker wherever she was needed, including President of the Senior Choir and a youth adviser with the youths of Buds of Promise.
She was a 1950 graduate of Wenonah High School and attended the now Lawson State Technical College for Cosmetology where she became self-employed in the Bessemer area. After retiring she was employed part-time by Roosevelt City Hall and went on to become a dedicated care-giver to several residents in the metro Birmingham and Bessemer area.
She joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Clarence Warren Solomon she was blessed with one son, Thomas Wayne Watkins, who also preceded her in death. Christine answered God’s call from labor to reward on Saturday, February 22, at her place of residence. She brought joy and laughter to McMillian Estates. Always with a joke and a smile on her face, she is already missed dearly.
She was preceded in death by her brother, John T. Jr., and her sister Laveria Rogers.
She leaves to cherish her memories: one daughter, Barbara Moten; grandchildren, Andre, Jatanya, Janika, Antonio (LaKeshia) Moten, LaTonya (Reginald) Johnson; seven great grandchildren; four sisters, Earnestine and Johnette of Birmingham, Lola of Las Vegas, NV and Tommie Jean of Los Angeles, CA; one brother, Walter Dwight Maddox of Birmingham, AL and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
