In Memory

Eunice Oliver (Boswell) - Class Of 1962

Eunice Louise Oliver Boswell was born on December 18, 1944, in Bessemer, Alabama, to the late Elder Solomon and Willie Lee Davis Oliver. She was a loving, devoted, and dedicated Christian, wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, educator, and child advocate.

Eunice was the third of ten children born to her parents, who demonstrated how to walk humbly as a servant of the Lord, yet boldly in fulfilling one's purpose according to God's plan. At an early age, her genuine and compassionate spirit was evident. Not only was she generous and giving to family, her bright light, beautiful smile and encouraging spirit extended to friends and anyone with whom she had contact

She confessed her belief in Christ at an early age and joined the Saint Peter Primitive Baptist Church, Bessemer, Alabama. She remained a faithful member until the Lord called her home. As a church member, she used her God given gifts, talents and abilities to further the mission of the church. Over the years, she served in many capacities at the church: Camp-meeting Choir member, Sunday School teacher, Youth Advisor, Church Historian, and since 2009, Church School Superintendent. In addition, she served as Dean of the Central Union Primitive

Baptist District Association for many years. Her passion and commitment to duty was evident as she gave freely of her time and talents to encouraging, mentoring, developing and teaching others.

Eunice was an academically gifted student. She graduated with honors from both Wenonah High School and Miles College. In addition, she received a master's degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Eunice was an educator for Bessemer City Schools for 30 years. She was one of the first

African American teachers to integrate the previously all white staff at Greenwood Elementary. Later, she served as Guidance Counselor for Abrams Elementary. After retiring from her work with the school system, she taught part-time at Jefferson State Community College. She loved her job and her students and invested heavily in ensuring that they not only understood the subject matter, but they developed character, self-esteem and the tenacity needed to succeed in life.

In 1967, Eunice married the love of her life, Alexander M. Boswell. To this union, two children were born Alexander (Chip) and Alan. Eunice was an exceptionally nurturing and supportive mother; she and Alexander taught her children, by precepts and examples, how to be God-fearing, industrious, independent, and compassionate people. These teachings are not only evident in the lives of her children, but in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well.

In fact, Eunice was a cornerstone for her entire family. She and Alexander opened their home and their hearts to the family. Numerous family events were held at their home. She was

determined to celebrate each family member by recognizing them on their birthdays, celebrating their accomplishments, and providing true support and concern in their time of need.

Eunice enjoyed her family, church, and friends until the very end of her journey; yet she was prepared to meet God. Her legacy is embedded in our hearts because of her faith in God, love of family, commitment to education and excellence, and showing of compassion and determination to all who encountered her sweet and beautiful spirit.

Eunice's grandson, Parker A. Boswell; parents, Elder Solomon and Willie Lee Oliver; brother, Elder Leroy Oliver; and her dear niece, Anita Stinson preceded her in death.

Eunice leaves to cherish her memory, a loving and dedicated husband, Alexander Boswell, Sr.; two devoted sons, Alexander Jr. (Kathy) Boswell and Alan (Shontrice) Boswell; two grandchildren, Kathryn (Jordan) Enlow and Ashlyn Boswell; three great grandchildren, Andre Enlow, Parker Kennedy Enlow, and
