Annie Washington (Coleman) - Class Of 1959

rs. Annie Coleman was born January 10, 1943, to the late Mr. Sylvester Washington and Mrs. Lucille Jemison in Emelle, Alabama. Her formative years were spent in Sumter County until the family relocated to the Bessemer, Alabama area. Early in life she united with New Bethlehem Baptist Church-Brewerfield, where she remained a lifelong, dedicated member, currently serving as Church Secretary.

She was a graduate of Wenonah High School; thereafter, she attended Alabama A & M University, where she majored in Elementary Education. Upon graduation from Alabama A & M, she began her teaching career in Cordale, Georgia. There, she met Mr. Harry Coleman; they united in Holy Matrimony and were blessed with a daughter, Tamico. She was afforded the opportunity to return home and teach in the Sumter County Schools for over 30 years, retiring from Livingston Jr. High School.
Her encounter with finer womanhood began with the Sigma Beta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. at Alabama A & M; she was a loyal Sorority, Inc. at Alabama A & M; she was a loyal member of Theta Omega Zeta Chapter, Livingston, Alabama. Mrs. Coleman was a warm-spirited individual who enjoyed remaining current with the latest news, spending time with family and friends, traveling and tutoring students. Preceding her in death were siblings, Teretha J. Maye, Franklin Washington, Billy Powell, Sylvester Washington, Jr., Ray Charles Washington, Willie James Marshall and Cyree Portis.

Life Celebration is Noon Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at New Bethlehem Baptist Church, 6001 Warner Street, Birmingham 35228. Pastor Claude Billups, Officiant. Zeta Phi Beta Ceremony is 10:00 Wednesday at Johnson Memorial. Inhumation follows at Valhalla Cemetery. Calling Hours at Johnson Memorial, Bessemer, Tuesday Noon until 8:00 with Family Visitation from 5:00 until 7:00.
