Jacueline Steverson (Marzette) - Class Of 1963

Jacqueline Delores Steverson was born to the late David Steverson and Armetta McAdoo Steverson. "Love", as she was called by her family, exemplified all of the characteristics of that name. She had a sweet, resilient manner. A devout Christian, she joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church as a child. Affiliating with various churches while she was away, she served under watch care. Often, she joined her husband at his home church, St. Matthew African Methodist Episcopal Church in Oxmoor. She attended Wenonah Elementary School and graduated in 1963 from Wenonah High School. To further her education, she graduated from Miles College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She obtained a Master of Education degree from Alabama Agriculture and Mechanical University and did further studies at the Bank Street College of Education and City College of New York. Love served as a Second Grade Teacher at Public School 55 in the Bronx, New York for more than thirty years. Upon retirement 2000, she and her husband relocated back home to Birmingham. Married to her husband David for 57 years, they are the parents of two sons: Michael Wesley and David Shaheem (Stephanie). After her retirement, she adored assisting in the rearing of her six grandchildren. She had been a volunteer at the Birmingham Museum of Art and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. As the matriarch of her family, she enjoyed reminiscing with her siblings and friends about growing up in the south. Well-traveled, Love has toured many Caribbean islands and European countries. She was an avid planner for her semi-annual family reunions.
