It was days ago when 23-year-old Jamea Harris of Birmingham was doing her best to teach her son Kaine how to ride his new bike without training wheels- the 5-year-old was so close.
Kaine will now seek guidance from his grandparents, after his mom was shot and killed early Sunday morning near the strip in Tuscaloosa.
I was touched after sitting down yesterday with Jamea's mother DeCarla and her stepfather Kelvin.
They wanted me to show you these pictures of Jamea, a 2018 Wenonah HS grad who was working at the Amazon plant in Bessemer.
The story that has drawn national attention is a tragedy on all fronts, especially for little Kaine, who has yet to be told that his mom won't be coming back.
"Kaine has been looking for his mom, but I just don't have the heart to tell him," said DeCarla. "Maybe tomorrow," she said, casting her eyes downward as Kaine watched cartoons.
Kaine's bicycle leaned against the wall behind the couch.
