John Harris

HARRIS, SGT. E-5 JOHN HENRY JR., born April 15, 1948 to John Henry Harris, Sr. and the late Mamie Jackson Harris. He departed this life on June 12, 2009. He leaves to cherish fond memories his father, John Harris, Sr.; three children, LaTonya Holloway, Artego Wilson and Jackie Harris; one granddaughter, Destinee Wilson; three brothers, James (JoAnn) Harris of Atlanta, GA, Rozell (Sandra) Harris, Paul (Georgianna) Harris, both of Birmingham, AL; three sisters, Elder Paula (Lynn) Lattimore, LaToya (Dominic) Reed, both of Birmingham, AL, and Cassandra Merriweather of Pittsburgh, PA; a special aunt, Willie B. Reynolds, of Birmingham, AL; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was a graduate of Wenonah High School. He obtained a Business Degree from Lawson State Community College. Sgt. Harris enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp in 1967. His three tours of duty was centered in Vietnam. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Stars, a Combat Action Ribbon, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Rifle Marksman Badge and a Purple Heart. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 19th, 2009 from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 12 noon at Grants Chapel with burial at G.W. Carver Memorial Gardens. Davenport & Harris Directing.
