NORTHPORT | John Bruce Baggett, age 59, of 11312 Alford Ave., Northport, died June 14, 2005, at home. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North with Dr. Dick Emery officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Baggett is preceded in death by his father, John Bayron Baggett, and his mother, Lorraine Bruce Baggett.

Survivors include his daughter, Amy Baggett Fell (Howie); son, Jeffery Paxton Baggett (Shanon); sister, Sharon Baggett Garner (Larry); brother, Jerry Blaine Baggett (Shelia); nephews, Steve Martin (Lisa), Bayron Baggett, and Jason Baggett; nieces, Stephanie Hubbard and Stacy Civley; aunt and uncle, Eddie and Shirley Eslin and many cousins; grandchildren, Howell Ray Fell III; and special friends, Elanie Dernulc and Betty Copeland.

Pallbearers will be Jeffery Paxton Baggett, Howell Ray Fell, Jr., Steve Martin, Bayron Baggett, Robert Colburn, Paul Morrison, Ken Hoots, and Joe Armstrong.

Bruce was loved by each person he met. He encouraged and supported many young people through sports. He was a softball coach for over 30 years. He was inducted into the Alabama ASA Hall of Fame. During his dedicated career, he coached as many as nine teams in one season. Bruce was always inspiring true sportsmanship to the players. He believed in teaching the game to his players and for them to always have fun while participating.

Bruce was dedicated to his job for more than 25 years at Martin Supply. He was also an usher at First Wesleyan Church. Bruce always had a smile on his face, a positive attitude and never complained. He will be greatly missed by all.

Rick, thank you for searching out news about classmates.  It is good to acknowledge and remember them.  What a sweet life was Bruce Baggett's!

Suzanne - it appears that Bruce had a profound positive influence on many young people. Of all the other measures of success that we tend to use, Bruce's legacy is hard to top.
