Richard "Kent" Gummerman, born June 9, 1943, passed away March 4, 2026, following a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease. His loving wife, Verma, was at his side. Kent was born in Bloomington, IL, graduated from Bloomington High School, and earned a Ph.D in Psychology from Stanford University. He married Diane Rehker, who passed away in 2010. He married Verma Rediger Lowry in 2015. He is survived by his wife Verma; son Geoffrey; stepdaughters Sarah Lowrey and Lori Lowrey; brother Kurt (Martha) Gummerman; nieces and nephews.
During his tenure at the University of Texas, Kent authored 19 academic papers, receiving more than 250 citations. He later worked as an independent policy analyst for the State of Texas, retiring in 2009.
An avid runner, Kent completed several marathons. With son, coach Geoff, he served as the Offensive Line Coach for Austin's Outlaws Women's Football Team. He aproached coaching calmly with a genuine curiosity and a deep investment in how each player learned and stayed motivated.
After retirement, he and Verma enjoyed their years spending winters in Green Valley, Arizona, and serving their church, Living Hope Christian Church in Downs, Illinois.
A graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to OSF Hospice, Bloomington, IL, or The Humane Society of Central Illinois.

Many good memories of a very kind, caring and highly intelligent friend. Most of all Kent was consistent in his ability to listen, support and think very logically. As I recall Kent could run a long way very fast. A very special person!!!
