Percy Brown
Percy Brown, 28, of 1504 W Olive who had not regained consciousness since he was shot Sept 14 in the left temple at the Third Ward Club, 412 S Main, died at St Joseph's Hospital at 10:06 p.m. Monday.
Bernard Graves, 52, Peoria, who had been jailed since the shooting, was arraigned in associate divion of circuit court Tuesday morning on a charge of murder.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday and Graves was returned to county jail in lieu of $75,000 bond.
Graves was arrested less than an hour after the shooting took place in a back room at the club.
He was charged with attempted murder and had remained in the county jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
Brown was shot, police said, at nearly point-blank range at the climax of an argument. The .38 caliber bullet came out the right side of Brown's head, according to police, then struck the wall and rolled under a chair at the table where the victum had been sitting.
Brown was employed by the Northern Illinois Gas Company.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Union Baptist Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Stamper Memorial Home.
He was born Oct 18, 1943, in Birmingham, Ala, a son of Percy and Addie May Lewis Brown. He married Albertine Patterson Aug 30, 1964, in Bloomington.
Surviving are his wife; his mother, 1111 N Morris; two daughters, Elizabeth and Addie; two sons, Carl and Terry, all at home; two brothers, Scottie, 1111 N Morris, and Willie, 514 N Main; and three sisters, Mrs Gloria Hamilton, 718 W Front; Mrs Pearlene Redd, 304 1/2 S Allin; and Mrs Cheryl Bell, 1113 N Colton. His father preceded him in death.
He was a member of the Union Baptist Church.
