Did you have milk delivered to your house when you were growing up?  My Mom had Meadow Good for years and I remember the Milkman coming in and looking in the refrigerator and leaving us what he thought we'd need.  I remember Meadow Gold when it was on West Washington Street but this picture says this building is on Lafayette Street.

Or,did you have Milk delivered from Laesch Dairy.  We eventually switched to Laesch and enjoyed it for many years.

And if you had Laesch Milk you would have had one of these on your porch!

Yes, we also used Laesch dairy, and our milkman, Mr. Tepper, used to put the milk into our refrigerator also. But before we got to know him very well, he did leave the milk outside in that box.  We purchased several plastic thermos-type glasses, the first that we had seen, to keep our milk cold a long time; pink and white, also blue and white and I still have one. I am too sentimental to throw it out. Did anyone else have any of those glasses?

Barb,  During grade school (Emerson) our family used Normal Sanitary Dairy.  When we moved and I started at Washington Jr high, we eventually used Laesch Dairy, and the Meadow Gold Dairy.  Its was truly amazing that you could have in home delivery.  Two of the three are gone.

Barb,  My senior year I was President of BHS band, and first chair trombone player.  As I recall you played saxophone.  No sure. I still own my PanAmerican trombone, but don't play anymore.   I was wondering how many members of the band still own there instruments they played in the band, and do they still practice or play?

Allan, I did play the saxophone and I was terrible at it.  I think I've told this before, my Mom bought the thing on time and anytime someone said they wanted to play an instrument that's what you played.  I remember one time I was supposed to play a small solo during a concert and I was so scared it sounded like a wounded duck was loose in the auditorium.  Needless to say, after I was done with it she sold it, never to be seen again.

I still have both my flute and my piccolo and when no one is at home, I still play them to relax.  Like Barb, I was never great at any instrument, but I did enjoy playing and I also loved the comaraderie with the rest of the band members.  I am sure I never would have completed college without being in the band.  It was my physical release from college pressures.

Who remembers the Green Stamp Store then going with their Mom to get whatever it was Mom had picked out.  I think it was located on North Main.

Or, the Yellow Stamp Store which was on Monroe Street.

Barb,

Both my mother and my aunt saved green stamps and one time my mother let me pick out a baseball glove I wanted.

Barb,

We rented a house in Meadowbrook for Patty and our two children in 1970 while I was in Vietnam.  Patty sold Playhouse Toys on the party plan and must have earned 60 books of S&H Green Stamps from her sales.  We had fun "spending" those when I got home.  Best,  Corky

Green Stamps:  After checking with my sister, Janenne, because at our ages two heads are better than one, we remembered the Green Stamp store and filling the books. We recalled going to the store on Main Street with our Mom and getting some mixing bowls. It was fun looking through their catalog, checking on how many books we had, and seeing what we could get. It took A LOT of books to get most things. They had mostly kitchen items, but we "think" we also got a blanket.

Another comment: I was born and raised in Bloomington and lived their till I got married in 1967. The pictures and articles both Milan and now Barbara have researched and shared are amazing. As I said, born and raised in Bloomington, and there are some places I did not know about, but have enjoyed learning about them.

Happy Fall. 🌻🎃🦃   Janice (Scott) Vitton

We've lost another Classmate.  Dan  Shickle passed away yesterday.  Dan was a contributor to our  Forum and when he was able he attended our Breakfasts.  He had lived with an LVAD devise for seven years and walked around with battery packs inside a vest and I never once heard him complain.  You will be missed Dan.
