
Richard Hopper
BLOOMINGTON — Richard J. Hopper, 70, Bloomington, passed away at 10 a.m. Sunday (June 15, 2014) at his residence.
His funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington. The Revs. Dale and Tammy Miller will officiate. Entombment will be at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum, Bloomington, with military rites accorded by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the memorial home. The family suggests memorials be made to The Wounded Warriors Project.
Richard was born Feb. 22, 1944, in Bloomington, the son of Merle J. and Laura H. Beier Hopper. He married Linda L. Shadoan. He later married Barbara S. McNemee on June 20, 1992, in Ellsworth. She survives.
Surviving are two children, Laurie A. Hopper and Erik J. Hopper, and two grandchildren, Draper Matthews and Davion Matthews, all of Bloomington.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, David R. Hopper; and one granddaughter.
Richard had owned and operated the Convenient Food Mart, Bloomington, for 20 years.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and obtained the rank of staff sergeant. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loyal dog “Buddy.” He will be missed by all who knew him.
