Charles A. Simmons, 74, of Normal, passed away 1:20 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 19, 2018) at his home.

A celebration of Chuck's life will be 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1636 Hovey Ave., Normal. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made in Chuck's honor to the missionary fund at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was born April 2, 1944, in Bloomington. His mother, Claire Jane Allison, passed away when he was two years old. He was adopted by Howard and Naomi Simmons, who gave him a loving and caring home, along with his grandfather, Arthur Simmons. He married Cindy L. Greene Fisher and they would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on Nov. 20, 2018. She survives in Normal.

Also surviving are his stepson, Kenneth C. “KC” (Georgieanne) Fisher, who he loved and raised as his own; two daughters, Jill Kristine Simmons (William) Schenk and Terri Sue Simmons (Michael) Holliday; his beloved grandchildren, Brandon M. (Jennifer) Holliday, Joshua “Josh” Holliday, Nolan Schenk, Sarina “Nina” Schenk, Stephanie (Jim) Leeds, Jennifer (Cody) Helfers and Ryan Fisher; great-grandchildren, Landon Helfers, Lilly and Emmie Leeds; sister-in-law, Linda Williams; brother-in-law, James Williams; niece, Jodi Lynn Haney; special cousin, Florence Schroader; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and his dog Buddy, a yellow Lab he thought was the greatest and smartest dog ever.

Chuck attended Brigham Young University and held many jobs prior to his retirement. He was an excellent carpenter and worked with Carpenters Local 63. He loved to build houses and he remodeled and flipped many houses for years in the Bloomington-Normal area. He worked at Eureka Company, Beichs Candy and the GM&O Railroad. Chuck also owned Simmons CB Radio Sales, where he made many friends.

He loved riding on his handicap scooter and his Ford 8N tractor.
