Mary Irene Mackeben (nee Wey), 81 of Kildeer, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025.
She will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 61 years, Wayne, daughter Sherri Nachtsheim (husband Bill) and son Scott Mackeben (wife Lynn). In addition, she is survived by six grandchildren she loved dearly; Matt Mackeben, Sam Mackeben, Courtney Kreis (husband John), James Nachtsheim, Michael Nachtsheim (wife Bailey) and Hannah Nachtsheim. She was also blessed with two great grandchildren, Audrey and Owen Kreis.
She was deeply proud of her children and grandchildren and had unconditional love for them. The priorities, values and empathy Mary lived with will be a memorable part of her legacy.
Mary was born in Bloomington, IL on February 4, 1944 to the late Brittin and Marjorie Wey. She grew up with five siblings; the late Robert Wey and Shirley Abbott, along with Nellie Mosley, Dan Wey and Rich Wey, who survive her.
Mary loved life and embraced it with a positive outlook, happiness and laughter. Over the years, she developed many strong and lasting friendships as she and Wayne raised their family in Brookfield, Arlington Heights and Elkhart, IN before settling in Kildeer. She was very active within her church communities and choirs as well as a Brookfield gourmet dining group, Elkhart canoe club and Kildeer/ Long Grove newcomers group. In later years, Mary was an active part of her grandchildren's lives and also loved to golf, sew, quilt, play games and spend winters on the gulf with Wayne in Orange Beach, AL where they would often take long rides on their bicycle built for two.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at First United Methodist Church of Palatine, 123 N. Plum Grove Rd. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.
