Thelma L.Walters
Thelma L. Kniss Walters, 88, a retired school teacher, and a longtime resident of Bloomington, died March 10, 1993 at the home of her daughter in Tucson, Arizona.
Burial was in EastLawnPalmsCemetery, Tucson.
Mrs. Walters was born August 22, 1906 in Loveland, Colorado, a daughter of Edgar and Mary Kniss. She married Harold D. Walters in 1932. He died in 1987.
Survivors include one daughter, Ann Smiley, Tucson; one brother, Glenn Kniss, Springfield; 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
One son and two brothers preceded her in death.
Mrs. Walters taught world history and Latin at BloomingtonHigh School for about 30 years. She also taught one year at IllinoisWesleyanUniversity, Bloomington. After leaving Bloomington in 1962, she taught in Hume and Evansville and Bedford in Indiana. She was a 1931 graduate of MomouthCollege in Illinois.
She was active in the United Methodist Women’s Group and was an artist who enjoyed creating art works for others. Her husband played the Christus in the American Passion Play for 24 years.
