Irving Joseph Aikin
Irving Joseph Aikin 52, a BloomingtonHigh School mathematics teacher, died of an apparent heart attack at his home at 509 S. Linden in Normal, at 2;30 a.m. Monday.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Flinspach-Kurth Memorial Home. Dr. Gordon B. While will officiate and burial will be at FunksGroveCemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family has suggest that any expressions of sympathy be made in the form of the Heart Fund.
Mr. Aikin was born in Atlantic City, NJ, Jan. 18, 1916, a son of William and Grace Reed Aikin. He married Elizabeth Ratcliffe Dec. 23, 1944 in WashingtonD.C.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Peggy at home, and Mrs. Terry Tosh at Q191 Cardinal Court; a son Roger at home; a half brother, Sam Minard, Burlington, NJ; a sister Mrs. Laura Potts, Bordentown, NJ; two grandchildren. His parents and a brother preceded him in death.
Mr. Aikin was a member of FirstMethodistChurch, Normal, the National Association of Teachers of Mathematics, the Illinois Education Association, the Corn Belt Philatelic Society, the McLean County Rose Society, and was a past president of the Normal Parent-Teacher Association.
His 6 years in the Navy took him through World War II.
He received his bachelor of science degree from IllinoisWesleyanUniversity in 1947, and a master of science degree from the University of Illinois in 1953.
