BLOOMINGTON — Charles A. Hildreth, formerly of Bloomington, passed away Oct. 28, 2015, at Meadowood Assisted Living in Grapevine, Texas. Charles was 88 years old and died from complications of pancreatic cancer.
He was born Nov. 13, 1926, in Lincoln, to Dr. Charles E. Hildreth and Margaret Stumpf Hildreth of Mount Pulaski. He married Janet Louann Coffman on Aug. 8, 1954.
He received his bachelor of arts in education from Carthage College and his master of arts in education from Illinois State Normal University. Charles taught educable mentally handicapped students for 27 years at Bloomington High School in Bloomington. He was very active in the Bloomington Education Association, investing in the stock market, reading books on tape and extensive traveling. He and Janet took many trips to Disney World in Florida, had been to all the states except Alaska, and traveled to Europe and Cuba.
Surviving him are his three children, Todd Alan Hildreth, Valmeyer; Pamela Ann Hildreth Claeys, Grapevine, Texas; and Marsha Lynn Hildreth Schellenberg, Normal; 10 grandchildren; his girlfriend, Laytella Smith; and his sister, Shirley Hildreth Van Hook.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Monday at East Lawn Funeral Home, 1102 Airport Road, Bloomington. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the interment following.
