NORMAL – Dwight A. Baker, 90, of Normal, died at 3:15 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 1, 2016) at Heritage Health, Normal.

Dwight was born in 1925 in Shirland, the son of Roy and Eva Kinney Baker. He married Marilyn Breneman on Aug. 27, 1949. She preceded him in death on Jan. 31, 2012.

Surviving are two children, James (Becky) Baker, Bloomington, and Jenna Wexler, Woodstock, Md.; three grandchildren, Mitchell (Gwenola) Baker, Milwaukee, Wis.; Barbara (Justin Fisher) Baker, Lexington, Ky.; and Noah Wexler, Rochester, N.Y.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dwane Baker.

Dwight served in the Navy on the USS Terry during World War II. He received his undergraduate degree from University of Illinois and master's from Illinois State University. He taught industrial arts, printing and graphic arts at Bloomington High School for 36 years. He was a crop hail adjuster for many years in the summer.

He was a competitive marksman and enjoyed downhill snow skiing. He was a long-time amateur radio operator, KA9CYJ. He was a team leader on many Habitat houses. He was a member of the International Edsel Club. He was also a long-time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Bloomington.

His funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at East Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army or St. John’s Lutheran Church.
