Edmond B Peterson

Star Tribune: Newspaper of the Twin Cities - Monday, May 3, 1999
Ed Peterson, owner of Pete's Texaco, one of the first 24-hour gas stations in Bloomington, died of cancer Wednesday at his Bloomington home. He was 54.

Ed Peterson took over the business in 1967 after his father, Edmond (Pete) Peterson died. He was 21 at the time, so "everyone thought he was going to run it to the ground" because he didn't have a college education, said his brother, Steve Peterson of Farmington. Instead, Ed made the station prosper. "He was a very proud and honest man," his brother said.

Cornfields surrounded Pete's Texaco, then known as Pete's Pure Oil , when it opened in 1953 on E. Old Shakopee Rd. The station developed a reputation for having a reliable towing service in the 1950s.

Dan Erspamer of Burnsville said he got to know Peterson when he joined the State Patrol in 1984. "He always made a desk and phone available to us troopers. He was the nicest person I've ever met, and he cared about everyone."

In addition to his brother, Peterson is survived by five daughters, Stephanie, Victoria, and Tamitha Lewis, all of Manassas, Va., Michelle Ashmore of Oakland, Calif., and Deanna of Bloomington; three sons, Scott of Hastings and Daniel and John, both of Bloomington; his mother, Eva of Bloomington; three sisters, Jean Wibbles of Andover, Beverly Blodgett of Bloomington and Audrey Fricke of San Jose, Calif.; another brother, Allan, of Bloomington and seven grandchildren.
