Walter “Shep” Shepherd

Walter Shepherd (known to many as Shep) passed from this earth on February 6 at Mount Sinai hospital in New York City following a long illness.

Born May 2, 1954 in New York City, Shep was the son of Walter Shepherd Sr. and Emma Brown.  He grew up in St. Albans, Queens and Shandaken.

Shep was a man who emanated a deep, loving spirit.  He was a certified alcohol and substance abuse counselor, and was passionately dedicated to the young people he worked with through the Step One program in Kingston.  He also mentored children through the Kids Together program, in Kingston.  He was ordained as an interfaith minister in 2006.  He had hoped to establish a ministry within hospitals and develop outreach to patients and families.  Those who knew Shep felt listened to and loved.  His warmth and wisdom will continue to nurture and bless all he knew.

Walter was my boyfriend during HS for a while. He always drew the most wonderful pictures for me and if I were sick he always made the greatest get well cards. One year he gave my mother (deceased 2008) an African mask, truly beautiful it still hangs on the wall in my parents home. My deepest condolence for his family. He was a really good guy.

Many Blessings
