Nancy Baker (Windt) VIEW PROFILE

Nancy Baker Windt, a lover of life, laughter, good friends and great times, passed away August 15, 2011 after a courageous battle against lung cancer.  Nancy was born March 27, 1940 to Emerson Donley Baker, Sr and Kathleen Hawkins Baker in Borger, TX.  She attended Borger High School and graduated in 1958 and then attended the University of Oklahoma where she was a Pi Phi as well as a SAE little sister.  Upon graduating in 1962 with a degree in Elementary Education, she taught Kindergarten until the birth of her two sons, William Bartlet "Bart" Scovill of Sarasota, FL and Robert Kirkland "Kirk" Scovill of Jacksonville, FL.  Her greatest joy and deepest pride came with the arrival of each of her sons and was increased immeasurably by the birth of her four grandchildren.  Her daughter in laws, Bettina Scovill of Sarasota and Missy Scovill of Jacksonville are the daughters to her that she would have chosen as her own.

Services for Nancy will be Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 3:00pm at Trinity United Methodist Church, Sarasota, Florida .  A gathering to remember Nancy and offer condolences to the family will follow the service in the Haley Hall of the church

Nancy loved to play cards and played any chance she could and in any place she could.  She always had a deck near by and even carried a deck in her car.  One never knew if she might need to pull over and play a hand or two.  She was a regular bridge player with her dear friends every Monday and played Canasta every Wednesday with the Can-Can girls.  A avid attempter at golf, she played with many groups but her most memorable rounds and trips were with the Bad Girls.  She LOVED to travel and often took her father as well as her sons and families to various destinations.  Nancy was a past member of the Junior League and a current member of JOY (Joining Our Youth), an organization focused on improving the quality of life for youth aging out of foster care.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her younger brother E. Don (Buzzy) Baker, Jr.  She is survived by her two sons and their wives as well as her grandchildren Tori and Sydney Scovill of Sarasota, FL and Morgan and Chase Scovill of Jacksonville, FL; a brother, Art Baker and his wife, Jo, of Amarillo, TX , her sister in law, Joye Baker of Dallas, TX and two nephews and a niece. Nancy has more friends than any person ever on the face of the earth and they come from all walks of life and no one was treated any better than the next.  She never met a stranger and if she did, they didn't remain one for long.  It wasn't a party until Nancy arrived and it was sure to be a success if she had any hand in planning the event.  She will be greatly missed by all her knew her and she requests a toast in her honor the next time you pour a round.  Being with Nancy was a rip roaring, gut churning, belly laughing, knee slapping, roller coaster of a time and we are all the better for having bought a ticket.

In lieu of flowers, Nancy requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  If you feel you must send flowers, please, no food color enhanced daises.

She was so great to be around. I recall she was on my golf team at one of the BHS reunions, and every hole was a different experience, especially with Nancy trying to make a putt. She could have played Goldie Hawn's character in the movie, Sugarland Express. Both Gloria Steinem and Phyliss Schlafly would have liked her.
